Tom Bevan at Real Clear Politics catches an important freudian slip made by Obama – only I think they read it wrongly. In talking about the healthcare bill to Republicans – there’s a video linked, Obama says
there’s some stray cats and dogs that got in there that we were eliminating, we were in the process of eliminating. For example, we said from the start that it was going to be important for us to be consistent in saying to people if you can have your — if you want to keep the health insurance you got, you can keep it, that you’re not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your decision making. And I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge.
Tom Bevan reads the admission as being about provisions
that would have in fact prevented people from keeping their current insurance and/or choosing the doctor they want.
when he clearly – and stupidly – considering his audience
On Sunday news tends to be local (good) and very trivial (not so good). So I searched all over the country for stories of interest:
Arkansas Democrat has one of those stories where they use “US” instead of Obama so you know it’s going to be bad news (the rule went opposite with Clinton)
And if you’re courious about that OHV decision they plan to reverse, it was something protecting national forests. Let the trucks roll in!
Also in Arkansas, begging for the money for the terrorist trials – this is a circus before it starts
(concerns mounting that Congress won’t fund this)
as well as friendly fire killings in Afghanistan
Miami Herald tells us abut the aftermath of the grounded flights of Haitian refugees in Florida
while Florida Times Union has bad news for DADT future
It’s unclear how Congress will react, but some members of Florida’s delegation — both Republican and Democrat — say they’ll lean heavily on what commanders want.(which is: “don’t make changes””time of war”)
But I bet you knew that, from that other headline.
…
A few papers in the nation cover Obama’s meeting with the GOP
In Indiana, another impeachment manager meets the Clinton karma and will spend more time with his family – cough, cough-ethics investigation
but the fun is always in NYC
The Daily News offers us a cocktail of 9.11 trial move, Edwards sex tape and something Tiger Woods
This is in no way a defense of Alito but it still confirms my expectations. I was then writing
I don’t agree with the SCOTUS decision in any way shape or form. But I wonder if the witch hunt for dissenters will be as intense this time
Maybe not as intense as Joe Wilson – times are a bit different.
And here’s another popular thread, trying to get back at Krugman for dissent
Remember Krugman’s bit “Obama Liquidates Himself”?
&mesg..Was a bit hit on DU. Near the end of that article:…Now, I still cling to a fantasy: maybe, just possibly, Obama is going to tie his spending freeze to something that would actually help the economy, like an employment tax credit.
Eventually someone posted
2. Krugman’s criticism was over the spending “freeze”:
his praise is for the job tax credit. I agree with Krugman on both. Why do people demand 100% loyalty on every issue despite FACTS?
Emphasis mine….
