Before anything else, Juggalos are right

while Bernie has a speaking tour for his pie in the sky,

and if that’s not unity enough

because “we hate you for not getting us more! Democrats stink!

and we now know it came from Bernie

because they forgot that Bernie said “they take our jobs”

we mortals are saddled with this zombie, yet again

as all sane people insist

Today’s tabloids read almost like yesterday, now with more paranoia. The cover of the day follows the same theme – only a notch up. It’s AM-NY again anf the NEVER SAFE ENOUGH headline is nested between 2 cops and a police tape

.The catching of a suspect is on all NYC papers.

NY Metro confirms my fears from yesterday after the Simpsons episode: To Surveil with Love

To Surveil With Love Promotional Image.jpg

: Bloomberg wants now more cameras!

.The NY POst didn’t make it in the Newseum. It had an almost identical hedline as the Daily News

The Daily News is just stating the obvious

.and Newsday looks like a mystery novel

.On the spill front, hopeless headlines.

WaPo says “yesterday tools”

.while Obama Times talks about “testing ideas”

and in Tennessee there are Floods

.Wall Street Journal has a very unfortunate choice of words headline

and Washington Times attempts to re-write history on the Kent State massacre

I postponed covering this one because the election got in the way, but it’s a doozie. Remember the 1st Amendment in the Constitution?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Well, now forget it, because when it comes to healthcare, Congress is establishing Christian Science as the go to healer (all you voodoo doctors, medicine women, shamans and other faith healers – go hide in shame – it’s only Jesus that saves)

a little-noticed provision in the healthcare overhaul bill would require insurers to consider covering Christian Science prayer treatments as medical expenses.

Separation of church and what again?

The “dog bites man” part of this story is that the bill was introduced by Orrin Hatch.

But wait, there’s a “man bites dog” newsworthy bit too

The provision was inserted by Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) with the support of Democratic Sens. John F. Kerry and the late Edward M. Kennedy, both of Massachusetts, home to the headquarters of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

What is it about Senate that perverts the best?

I guess I just found anoher reason to name the bill after Ted Kennedy. Ya know, like a prayer for him.

Eat your heart out, W, the Democrats are out-doing you and your faith-based puny attempts to establish a theocracy. How can they not, with their own Messiah?

And on the other side of derangement – less dangerous but equally disturbing, The New Republic sees tea parties in a show about aliens

a ham-handed metaphor for President Obama. The visitors are young, charismatic, futuristic, and have a one-worldish vision of peace. They target the young by enticing them to join an idealistic (but, in reality, sinister) youth group.

Oh, noes! Obama is a lizzard – sez so on my teevee! (at least that’s what TNR reads). And if you doubt, here’s more proof:

The lead character is skeptical–what proof do you have she asks, besides some scary thing “you read on the internet.” But the seemingly hysterical message from the internet is true! The charismatic new leader is masking her true identity! The death panels are real!

Gee, I thought Obama liked the internet, hipster that he was…

To be sure, I believe the new “V” dumbed down the original, or at least gave it a heartectomy by adding the FBI agent and terrorist plots. (The original was dedicated to all resistence fighters, past and future)

It now has only a good cast to recommend it. And a New York setting.

But to see Obama in an alien show that frankly – is all over the place and has no theme beyond “our saucers are bigger and shinier”

Me thinks these TV reviewers need some therapy.  I bet they can find a Christian Scientist to pray for them – and then be reimbursed for it.

Update

Reading the Confluence, I find out TNR is hardly alone in finding V to be about Obama

The difference? The Tribune seems to like that

Welcome to ABC’s “V,” the most fascinating and bound to be the most controversial new show of the fall television season.

I also think it’s far more smarter to see the series taking pot shots at Obamania than Obama himself. I guess suddenly the change of the title logo – from the resistance sign of victory to simpering teens admiration has a reason now.

Oh, well, lizzard, schmizzard – at least the aliens got a woman as a leader and she seems to know what she’s doing!

Update

Following up on the coverage I found Gawker’s reaction to the Tribune’s excitement. Like TNR, they are not happy:

We find it hard to believe that thinly-veiIed conservative propaganda will find a strong foothold with the core sci-fi audience, and as for those leaning to the right, they tend to like their entertainment much more straightforward. Why try to figure out what all those lizard people mean when they can just watch Jack Bauer bash people’s heads in on 24? That’s their idea of fun.Our prognosis, keep picking on the president and the only letters that V will get are D.O.A.

Ouch! Someone hit a nerve with B0bots while I was waxing nostalgic over the original. But what do I know? I am only a sci-fi fan. Partial to good sci-fi.

But one of the comments on the show at TWOP stuck me in light of the new POV: if the visitors have been here for years, infiltrating us, couldn’t they secure one friendly reporter?

me thinks the visitors didn’t have enough money for that. references to MSNBC/Fox have been deconstructed by viewers now.

Update

Almost reluctant to add the proof that I was right

The script was not written as a roman a clef or allegory for the Obama administration. The script was written by Mr. Peters during the Bush administration and started before Mr. Obama clinched the nomination. The author, Mr. Peters, is not some evil sleeper right-winger/Obama hater. Mr. Peters, besides being a talented writer and director is a gay man, legally married in California, and a  liberal supporter of the President who worked for and donated money to the his campaign. If he’s a mole for some right-wing conspiracy he may be the most committed spy ever. Mr. Peters, who was born in Canada, recently became an American citizen; a process he tried to expedite so he could vote for Mr. Obama, a deadline he missed by two days. (and then proposition 8 came! – my comment)

Which opens 2 questions:

1. Why did B0bots see themselves in the duped earthlings applauding some gimmick

2. What happened to the awesome writing quality in Peters 4400?

There’s also a sad sign of the times that such a defense needed to be mounted.

We have the trip to Paris, where people see God (at least in the AP version)

“I saw God before me,” he said, “because I saw this smile that a million people have seen around the world. I saw her (Michelle) radiant. … It’s idiotic, but it’s like that.”

Well, at least the man called it for what it was, as the French don’t see God that often.

In the AFP version, a waiter at the same restaurant informs us “God” is a bit paranoid

They have someone who tastes the dishes,” said waiter Gabriel de Carvalho from the “La Fontaine de Mars” restaurant where Obama and his family turned up for dinner on Saturday night.

“It wasn’t very pleasant for the cooks at first, but the person was very nice and was relaxed, so it all went well,” he said on the Itele news channel.

How very Roman emperor of him!

Ap also found someone who made the unfavorable Clinton comparison

Obama shook the men’s hands, then posed for a group photo.”It’s fantastic. What a beautiful souvenir!” exclaimed a beaming Daldoss.

He said he has worked in motorcades for Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush without ever getting such hands-on gratitude.

“The others were nice but not more than that,” Daldoss said. “I retire in a few months. This is a magnificent mission.”

and rushed to publish it in the “common touch” suck up department, in spite stories like this one abunding about Clinton.

On a more serious matter, the official propaganda paper, NYT has a deceptively interesting title on an article where “brilliant” is repeated every paragraph – mostly about Larry Summers – and besids the opening news that Obama swatted a fly, the only news for me was that Obama was keeping Bush’s chief of Federal reserve (in the interests of financial stability” – what stability?).

To get the real news I had to get to Voice of America (just like when I was in the old country) to find out that

The somber admission follows the latest jobless report showing the highest unemployment rate the United States has seen in more than 25 years.

U.S. unemployment jumped a half percent in May, to 9.4 percent

Seems those brilliant men in the fly swatting NY Time s piece were a bit wrong

a member of President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors:

“The economy clearly has gotten substantially worse from the initial predictions that were being made, not just by the White House, but by all of the private sector,” said Austan Goolsbe

That can’t be true! New York Times tells us

With those,(brilliant efforts)  and the Fed’s efforts, the economy shows signs of new life.

I guess coma patients show those too…

And that was
