In the old country, I knew I had to go or lose my sanity when I saw retirees on TV cheering for a new law diminishing their pension.
It seems I cannot hide from it. Tonight I read this headline in Firedoglake
The letter is included and summed up thus
That’s right, the organizing project of the Democratic National Committee wants you to organize in support of freezing public worker salaries.
To me, reading it and seeing the misuse of the word “responsibility rang a bell. I still have the tabloids from Obama’s inauguration bestest speech ever
The Os who seemed so very attuned to dog whistles missed that one.
The Wall Street Journal surely picked it up as it was addressed to them.
Very few in the media remarked the fact that he took the words straight from W’s inauguration speech.
The letter asking for astroturf starts
A decade of irresponsible spending led to a projected $1.3 trillion deficit that President Obama inherited upon taking office — putting America on an unsustainable fiscal course.
Thank gods, Jr.jr is ushering his era of responsibility.
You know, where the workers and the seniors pay so the billionaires and the banks can continue the lifestyle they’ve became accustomed to.
Some comments even remark that they see some O’s complying with the request.
My question for all of them: now you finally notice?
You had a candidate running in 2008, when the narrative should have been clear cut: you had war and misery after you had had peace and prosperity. Which party is more likely to bring back what you want?
Instead, you cheered for someone who extolled Reagan’s greatness (the true revolutionary), praised R ideas and sought “post-partisanship”
So we should be surprised now, why?
The article starts
We’ve officially gone around the bend.
Yes you did. Two years ago.
While voters have been lectured – hard – about party loyalty, Obama – like he did in the NYC mayor race, can pick and chose.
In RI he got his response – NY Post has it on page one
I saw in B0botland a comment to this that it’s so good, I’ll just reproduce it in all entirety – as more people need to ponder it
3. Sadly, he failed to send a message to the “retaliators”
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 07:56 AM by BragiIt is regrettable that the President made this statement without apparently even acknowledging that Jones’ right to free speech means that he cannot be stopped from expressing his idiotic religious views and publicly insulting the Koran and Islam.
Why this bothers me is this: Obama and anyone with an internet connection knows now that the Muslim world is being told that this planned Koran burning could be stopped by the U.S government — if it wanted to — so that when the burning event takes place — and it looks like it certainly will — Muslims will see it as an insult from all Americans, an insult that must be retaliated.
The only way to counter this propaganda is to start making it clear now that, in America, freedom of speech trumps the right of anyone, Muslims included, not to be offended. That’s what America is, freedom means idiots are free to express themselves in idiotic and offensive ways.
Yet so far, everyone in the administration from Obama on down have talked about tolerance, which is fine, but no-one in the administration (that I can see) has yet acknowledged the reality about freedom of speech, or countered the claim that the government could stop Jones if it wanted to.
So when do you think it might be appropriate, Mr. President, to start to tell it like it is? After the embassies are ablaze?
Soon a piece of news confirmed the poster’s expectations
I’m sure this guy won’t be convinced that American free speech laws means any nutjob gets to insult any religion they choose to insult, but what about the rest of the Muslim world?
When do American leaders (like the President) start to explain and defend freedom of speech?
It’s time stop trying to beg Jones to stop, and time to start explaining how freedom of speech means that no religion is protected from criticism and even insult.
FBI agents visited Thursday with a minister of a small Florida church that plans to burn the Quran on Sept. 11, as public safety became a paramount concern and President Barack Obama added his voice to the chorus of opposition.
I suppose these were “the better angels” Obama referred to.
No sooner did Gibbs reaffirm his opinions of the B0bots that they get this letter from Obama (via OFA)
one key part of our Vote 2010 plan this year is to get folks like you from across the country to commit to vote, to make sure we get as many people as we can to cast their ballots this fall.
But getting the commitments we need starts with your own promise to make it to the polls and cast your ballot. Will you please commit to vote in the 2010 elections?
There’s a link where the crazy druggies can commit themselves…
What? Not even flowers and a half assed apology? Now that’s getting abuse to an art.
How many battered B0bots will sign on? More than they should.
A few walk off though
in each case a box popped up asking me why.
My answer: “Gibbs and Emanuel, because as a liberal progressive I am tired of being marginalized.”
but not too far
How do they expect me to care in November? Yes I will vote, but how can I have any passion after they threw me under the bus?
Sorry for being negative but this is so depressing.
Of course, considering the monumentally bad decisions they made lately, B0bots should commit themselves. They proved they can be a danger to themselves and to others.
So many liberals seem shocked and dismayed that Obama is governing as a self-protective politician first and a liberal second, even though that is what he campaigned as.
Yeah, I know, I wondered about that “liberal second” too.
The second thing is that, to the extent that the “liberal left” is upset at the President, it’s because they are seeing a great opportunity slip away in real time. The only one that told the base that they could change America from the bottom up and bring forth a transformative new era of leadership is Barack Obama. If he didn’t want one, he shouldn’t have said anything. I guess you don’t get elected by opining on “contemporary political realities,” but these roadblocks went up in a flash, from practically the moment after the election.
Sorry, but he did drop gianormous clues, such as when he praised Reagan and referred to Social Security as entitlement… Not your fault that you were too busy beating up of liberals to pay attention.
The people who worked for Obama, who knocked on doors and made phone calls and all the rest, got the door slammed in their face on Day One. And now, the people who did the slamming want to know why those guys are so angry all the time.
I have one word for the people who knocked on doors – and it’s in Rahm’s lexicon: retarded.
if you missed that clue, you deserved the name.
So, stop whining about whining already! Buy the BS remover and shut up!
