Credit for this find in the military survey trying to sink DADT goes to Bluebear who added

Nice, dignified survey, Mr. President.

For clarity, I put this in the body of the entry

http://www.servicemembersunited.org/survey
The exact question is on page 26

If Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is repealed and you are assigned to bathroom facilities with an open bay shower that someone you believe to be a gay or lesbian Service member also used, which are you most likely to do?

and the possible choices

“Take no action”

“Use the shower at a different time than the Service member I thought to be gay or lesbian”

“Discuss how we expect each other to behave and conduct ourselves”

“Talk to a chaplain, mentor, or leader about how to handle the situation”

“Talk to a leader to see if I had other options”

“Something else”

“Don’t know.”

There are more pearls in there – pages 25 to 27 are extremely good. A peak:

We already know his administration is going to appeal the decision striking DOMA but who knew they were working so damn hard to mess  the implementation of DADT?

At the original  link you can find B0bot reactions that run the gamut from “not his survey” to “you changed a word in the quote”

Quotable ones

78. Would having a gay man in DC see a picture of you shirtless impact your ability to be President?

Itd only make sense to cleanse DC of homosexuals…what if our politicians get seen in a sauna by them

and

64. My tax dollars helped pay for this bigoted shit

The Commander in Chief should be ashamed of himself. Someone should read this exact quote to him at his next press conference and make him defend it publicly in front of millions of people.

Update

An orange Cheeto (and Bobotland) attempts to exonerate Obama from this by blaming the corporation that was contracted to make the survey.

.One good comment (of several)

if Obama didn’t know the contents of a survey

With this much national attention being paid to it,
and given the nations history re: institutional bigotry –
then he is a boob.

Maybe even an incompetent bigoted boob.

Update 2

Pentagon denies Bias

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell refuted the claims, saying, “Absolutely, unequivocally, I reject (the accusations of bias) as nonsense.”

Morrell cited concerns expressed by troops and said, “We think it would be irresponsible to conduct a survey that didn’t address these kinds of (privacy-related) questions.”

and the obvious question for Obama’s cheerleaders: NOW does he know about it?

,

I liked this part of Obama’s speech when he switched generals

We need to remember what this is all about.  Our nation is at war

I mean, we really need to remember what this is about. Why are we a nation at war again?

he also said

But war is bigger than any one man or woman, whether a private, a general, or a president.

I am pretty sure it’s bigger than all the people which died in it. So, do we need to worship it or something?

I know it has a deadline which starts to look like the horizon

US officials downplay July 2011 withdrawal from Afghanistan

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates rejected suggestions Sunday that US forces will move out of Afghanistan in large numbers in July of next year under a deadline set by President Barack Obama.”That absolutely has not been decided,” Gates said in an interview with Fox News Sunday.

The Guardian correctly noted that

America has settled into being a nation perpetually at war. In this climate it’s no surprise generals sometimes get out of control

So, the question would be, where is the anti-war movement?

Found it! Busy scrubbing the past!

After all, it’s not nice to protest the Nobel Prize for peace laureate!

Update

This terrific headline

Cutting to heart of Obama’s dilemma: ‘Can the war be won?’

a reporter shouted an impromptu question. “Can the war be won?” he yelled. The president didn’t answer — perhaps because he doesn’t know.

Video at the link.

B0bot apologia

1. Well, at least he didn’t lie

and more

10. That’s not exactly a fair article.

The president was finished his statement and was walking away from the podium. He didn’t take questions.
8. Supid, pissant, mousey little showboating reporter

and some common sense

7. It’s all about Obama, huh? WHAT ABOUT THOSE KILLING AND BEING KILLED???

End the war. NOW.

.

It’s Murdcoh vs Murdoch as we are told the two tales of Rahm today.

One comes from Murdochs UK paper

Rahm Emanuel expected to quit White House

and has the funniest subtitle

Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, is expected to leave his job later this year after growing tired of the “idealism” of Barack Obama’s inner circle.

Thank goodness for the quotation marks or my head would have exploded.

But then Murdoch’s Faux dismisses the first story

White House Dismisses Emanuel Quitting Report as ‘Ludicrous’

and abundently quotes the original piece that it discredits.

Me, I am stuck with the “idealism” thinghy and the sound of 1000 b0bot heads exploding. (If Rahm left, who would be the bad guy holding poor little Obama prisoner and restraining his “idealism”?

Hmmm…what is idealism? How can I picture it? My brain is clogged by the sheer enormity of it

And suddenly, Steve Martin helps me flush my brain with his

Holiday Wish

to explain such idealism to me. For those of you too young or too forgetful, a dreamy misty eyed Steve Martin sitting by the Christmas tree started his  evolving wish list  like this:

If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season, it would be that all the children to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

Very likely because of Rahm Emmanuel, he continued like this

If I had two wishes I could make this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace. And the second would be for 30 million dollars a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.

By the time he gets to the end Rahm Emmanuel makes him come with this revised list

No, no, the kids, the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. But wait a minute, who am I kidding? They’re not going to be able to get all those kids together. I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible, more trouble than it’s worth! So — we reorganize! Here we go. First, the sex thing. We go with that. Second, the money. No, we got with the power second, then the money. And then the kids. Oh wait, oh jeez, I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay, I need revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in hell! That would be my fourth wish. And, of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace. Thank you everybody and Merry Christmas.

And that would sum up the idealism of the inner circle of the Obama administration.

Now, off to the whaling summit, those whales won’t kill themselves and BP needs a little help making room for its oil.

From CNN, comes this headline

Louisiana lawmakers propose prayer to stop oil disaster

State senators designated Sunday as a day for citizens to ask for God’s help dealing with the oil disaster.

“Thus far efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail,” state Sen. Robert Adley said in a statement released after last week’s unanimous vote for the day of prayer. “It is clearly time for a miracle for us.”

The resolution names Sunday as a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana and calls on people of all religions throughout the Gulf Coast “to pray for an end to this environmental emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood.”

Something here seems amiss… Oh, that pesky separation of state and church again.

Something here seems insane. Oh, yeah, that magical thinking again.

Something here seems familiar. Where did we hear – 6 paragraphs out of 32 speech on this?

Apparently B0bots forgot that part because they are all jumping on this.

A few great lines too

As a friend noted yesterday

“Does this mean they think that God wanted this to happen to begin with?”

and

10. I wanna help god

Where do I send my money?

But no one remembers the six paragraphs in teh speech. You know, the stuff that made Andrew Sullivan’s father cry

And while I approve of prayer as  as much as I approve of yacht racing for stopping the oil, the state legislators were no more removed from reason than Obama  in his speach to the nation.

So, if we’re going to mock, let’s give credit where credit is due.

.

As per Rahm’s plans, BP’s Tony’s Hayward Yacht racing is on all covers. Even NY Post

.Far from me to try to defend Tony. It’s just that he’s been replaced from oil-kill duties.

Not so Obama.

Priceless headline in Alabama: OBAMA WANTS HIS PRESIDENCY BACK FROM THE OIL SPILL. Well, then maybe he should stop it with the golfing and baseball games and be President

Here’s a provocative cover photo – and you flag defenders rest assured – it wasn’t photoshopped or  staged

More optimism from Mississippi

and Florida

and from LA we find how useful Obama’s “spill panel” really is

Oh, and in case everyone forgot, we’ve got two wars going. One (at least) ain’t doing all that well. I wonder if Obama wants his presidency back from wars too. Economy?

Should I find more interesting NY covers outside, I’ll update here.

And Happy Father’s Day!
