Surprisingly, all tabloids today tackle some relevant issue – in their own style.
The Daily News is all over the place, with hysterics about the 9.11 trial, Health Club for Men and sports
while NY Post zeroes on the taxing of Health Club for Men
Metro has a more upbeat (for me) story – on the women’s increasing role in art – and the expected conflicts that come with that
I left the best for last. AM-NY is looking at the bonuses that ate our tax money in bailout
Tapper writes that GMA is doing a piece on Wall Street planning to spend the profits from bailouts…abroad.
It was those “Palin/anti-choice/PUMAs who hijacked NOW presidential elections last June, or so the blogosphere would have us believe.
. But it does mean that the Palin supporters are still angry that NOW and Kim Gandy did so much to elect Barack Obama. But, why would Republican Palin supporters care about NOW? Unless, of course, they’re really just PUMAS
Wow! If we buy that, NOW is now anti-choice then, right? Since PUMA is for Palin and Palin is anti-choice, they could only have elected an anti-choice President for NOW.
And this would be very easy to come to light after Obama’s bestest speech evah in which he declared
And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”
All the Palin/PUMA stooge had to do was to applaud Obama on this.
Or, if she wanted to blend in, just follow NARAL, Planned Parenthood, MS in their total silence on this.
(Ms banner as of today)
But somehow, this representative of status quo (because she was old and white instead of young and black) did the unexpected: stood up for women’s rights to chose
NOW categorically rejects President Obama’s promise to retain current “conscience refusal” laws, as stated last night. So-called conscience exemptions or refusals that allow health care providers — physicians, nurses, clinics, pharmacies hospitals and even profit-driven insurance companies — to refuse to provide any service that they claim offends their personal beliefs are untenable. Every woman in this country has a fundamental human right to the full range of reproductive health services, including a constitutional right to choose abortion.
Not only that, but they endorsed the unpleasant-we-don’t-talk about-it single payer plan.
Damn those white old women, acting up again!
I missed that takeover election, only read about it. But yesterday, after reading this account
I had joined NOW.
And they said it well, to be sure, covering the kids aspect, the way Chelsea Clinton was treated, how political sides are no excuse for demeaning of women. They even said
Letterman also joked about what he called Palin’s “slutty flight attendant look” — yet another example of how the media love to focus on a woman politician’s appearance, especially as it relates to her sexual appeal to men.
Which is wonderful – and very, very, very late.
Where were you when they were calling Hillary names? I only remember the post-portem
“NOW’s president, Kim Gandy, said her members would remain alert: “We’re going to keep watching because we think Michelle Obama will be the recipient of the same kind of attacks that Hillary was.”
Thank God you remained vigilent on Michelle while declaring Palin was not a woman
Gov. Palin may be the second woman vice-presidential candidate on a major party ticket, but she is not the right woman.
So, you may imagine why Dave got a bit confused about all the mixed messages. Maybe he understood from you and all the other “feminists” that Palin was a dude, therefore offense-proof. Maybe he thought that now a days , that’s what a feminist looks like
and not them objects with skirts and slutty looks…
That being said, we hope that you’ll be able to stay awake long enough to see sexism and misogyny even when coming from Teh One.
I am still waiting for your reaction on his defense of the women’s right to wear a hijab?
Or the one about Obama not asking Sotomayor about her position on choice rights?
It would be nice if NOW could actually respond to events as they happen – not a week later – as in this case. (NOW, not later)
Still, your taking on Letterman was the bravest thing you did in a long, long time.
Let’s see you actually speaking truth to power next time, and maybe your credibility may start being restored.
Or better yet, as the Reclusive Leftist recommends, change their leadership
