The Obama media reaches for the obvious and calls the damage control they are doing for Obama just that: “Damage Control” – a somewhat damning headline for their protege. Although they still try to present the whole unpleasantness as “a test of openness” for Obama

Obama’s campaign lawyer Bob Bauer is taking a leading role in conducting what one top aide described as “an internal review” stopping short of a full-blown investigation.

The goal is simple and urgent: find who talked with disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and when – and precisely what they said.

When you’re talking “lawyer” and “what they said” – it’s more than a test.

Maybe those multiple conversations will Rahm Emmanuel over the senate seat will come out to light as they are on wiretapes anyway

Maybe that’s why the word “scandal” is also used now

In trying to meet the first rule of Washington scandal-management – get the facts out on your own terms, and fast – Obama may have promised something he’ll later regret, one expert warned.

And the other possibility of nuggets of information

Obama also released the list of donors to his transition fund earlier than required. And this week, he announced his transition team would take questions from the public and answer the most popular queries.

hey, who knows? With all this “openness” one of these days, the electoral campaign list of donors may be released too…

One more stumbling block to getting the facts on his own terms: Rezko is talking

Of course, NY Times goes out of its make every paragraph exculpatory

“When Tony Rezko was charged with all these crimes, people speculated about what he might say about Obama,” Mr. Stewart said. “But as of now, nothing of any consequence has come out of that.”

It’s good they use qualifiers such as “as of now” considering Rezko may be talking some more

So, while B0bots feel that the media terrorizes Obama, I am starting to wonder, how long can they manage to portray Obama as heroic and noble in the avalanche of new facts?

What is remarkable is the speed whith which this story is burried. It didn’t make page one even in all Chicago papers. I left out the Tribune as they focus on Blago’s wife and managed to get 2 keepers:

The Red Eye for havng a bit of Obama face in context (only one doing it)

and the SouthTown Star – for the Jesse Jackso Jr memorabilia

In new York, only NY Post pays some attention, and only to jackson, but the title and page composition are priceless

It’s time for Axelrod to do the fast tap dance after proving Obama a liar(as Obama declared he had not spoken to Blago)

“I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”

These words – according to Politico, were first retracted by an aide speaking anonymously

“What the president-elect said today is correct, David Axelrod misspoke,” the aide said.

Then Axelrod decided to make it official and deny some more

I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.

Now, how could he even know what Obama didn’t do at any time?

Especially when Obama himself said he did

“But the last thing I want to do is get involved in New York politics,” he said, noting that he has enough of that to deal with in his home state of Illinois, which is also looking for someone to fill his senate seat.”

And aren’t we glad the DNC moved to Chacago?

Thanks Janet for the tip _ Nov 5 article on Obama meeting Blago

which was first posted by Sarah in Italy

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

gets better:

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Didn’t Obama resign senate  10 days after this meeting?

After the amazing feat of keeping the Rezko trial secret during the campaign the media has a new challenge: how do you isolate Obama from further evidence of “”staggering” level of corruption involving pay-to-play politics in Illinois’ top office right in his backyard again?

So Jack Tapper does some fast talking

Obama “is saddened” and  the now familiar “no comments on an ongoing investigation” which we heard a lot in the past 8 years.

Some inconsistencies appear

Asked what contact he’d had with the governor’s office about his replacement in the Senate, President-elect Obama today said “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.”

as opposed to the November

Axelrod said, “I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”

And here’s the video

And the connections are hard to miss

n 2004, then-Gov. Blagojevich enthusiastically endorsed Obama for the Senate seat after he won the nomination, and Obama endorsed Blagojevich for his 2006 re-election race in early 2005.

In the Summer of 2006, then-U.S. Sen. Obama backed Blagojevich even though there were serious questions at the time about Blago’s hiring practices.

Continuing after the investigations were in progress making the corruption public knowledge

We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois,” Obama told the crowd.

In January 2007, Blagojevich’s office reserved the Old State Capitol for Mr. Obama’s presidential announcement at Obama’s request.

I am sure it’s nothing more damning than say, W’s and Ken Lay friendship.

So, let’s all reminisce about the opposite: making up a situation where nothing existed and refusing to report the official exhoneration. Show of hands: how many people know Whitewater was made up by a NY Time reporter and an Arkansas freeper AG?

Obama’s name however shall be never spoken in the same sentence with neither Rezko nor Blagojevich

More on the connections and the lies

and also the effects on the Kennedy blackmailing Paterson on behalf of his niece

Ted Kennedy had a spokesman deny the “politicking”

The AP take on it has an interesting tidbit

Robert Gibbs, an Obama spokesman, said: “We did not know about this recent part of the investigation until today.”

Did Fitz keep them out of the loop? or rather yake this declaration, like all of them at its opposite value?
