I am still confused why anyone would think it was a great thing that Democrats passed a Heritage Foundation healthcare Bill. Somehow, there is this talking point where the “R”s are hypocritical for opposing it, while the “D”s are brilliant for borrowing it.

Even in this cartoon, Romney speaks, but Obama looks at the two ugly children silently. Does he like Romeny’s? Does he think Romney’s prettier than his or does he sees both as ugly? We are not supposed to wonder, just shut up and laugh at Romney.

This whole line of propaganda has to be part of this predilection

But such is the political discourse these days. After Obama cheerfully announced on a morning show that he passed the opposition’s bill, his voters are being tossed aside and it’s all about what will the “R”s say.

And today we have the hilarious denial from the Heritage Foundation itself in WaPO

Obama’s health reform isn’t modeled after Heritage Foundation ideas

They cannot deny that they came up with the idea of mandates

Yes, in the early 1990s, we, along with other prominent conservative economists, supported the idea of such a mandate. It seemed the only way to solve the “free-rider” problem, in which individuals can, under federal law, walk into any hospital emergency room nationwide and rack up big bills at taxpayer expense.

But apparently, they now consider this idea obsolete

Our research in the ensuing two decades has led us to realize our initial idea was operationally ineffective and legally defective. Well before Obama was elected, we dropped it.

So, let me get this: not only does Obama pass “R” legislation, but according to this, he has passed antiquated “R”  legislation?

In his glee in trapping the “R’s Obama forgot the perception that not only did he play for the other team, but he picked up their rejects?

Hooray for us! We won! yeay! We beat them!.

The best part of this is the ending:

The president and his supporters invoke the Heritage Foundation to convince the American people that his health bill is somehow a middle-of-the-road approach. It isn’t. So please, Mr. President, stop it.

Yeah, I agree. Please, do. If The Heritage Foundation is the middle of the road, I am afraid that I won’t even find Atila the Hun to the right. And no, nobody, from any political spectrum is going to start to like this law because it has the heritage Foundation stamp of approval/birth certificate on it. You still played for the other team and there’s no points for betrayal. From anyone.

Especially with all the bad surprises that keep coming at us. See for instance The Big Pink on drawbacks which were well known, but Obama Times refrained from reporting

Only now, in April of 2010 does the New York Times decide to inform readers that New York State is a “laboratory for the core provision of the new federal health care law”.

Premiums for individual and small group policies have risen so high that state officials and patients’ advocates say that New York’s extensive insurance safety net for people like Ms. Welles is falling apart.”

In fact, I see a time – not too far in the future, when both “R”s and “D” are going to throw the ugly child in each other’s lap.
