It’s been announced yesterday
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine plans to make what’s being billed as a major announcement Wednesday about the future of the party, according to a Democratic source with knowledge of the speech.
Considering Kaine has been pretty much in an undisclosed location for the past two years the word “exciting” coming from him is to say the least, odd. It may be the main reason it has people guessing.
From the right, Hot Air
I’m honestly intrigued. What could be so important that the DNC would hype it this ridiculously, yet so unimportant that they’d farm the announcement out to, um, Tim Kaine? Exciting new hit piece from the NYT about how Boehner, unlike everyone else in D.C., meets with lobbyists? A bold new innovation on the “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan” messaging? Dare we hope – a new car metaphor? Just tell us already!
Actually, it’s probably going to be the “relaunch” of Obama’s lame online organization or something like that, isn’t it?
Wonkette has a few funny ones
Tim Kaine got engaged to Markos Moulitsas! The party will go online-only. Democratic public officials will conduct all official business on Club Penguin. They’re merging with the Republican Party, pending antitrust approval. Newt Gingrich will be appointed president of the new single-party government. Hackers broke into Dick Cheney’s heart software and killed him. Suddenly, all the Taliban in Afghanistan disappeared into thin air and 90% of the nation’s unemployed were handed new, well-paying jobs. Pizza party! Democrats will finally show some backbone and stand up for what it believes the country needs.
Yeah! Words! More Cheering for shit we know didn’t work under Republicans but we’ll do it too!
5. Maybe they are actually let the repugs filibuster??? N/T
A big public works project? A “new” New Deal? n/t
. This better be more useful than the stupid ass key chain he gave Jon Stewart. nt
33. Perhaps a Democratic version of the Contract with America . . written by Alan Simpson, perhaps?
63. Does it involve key chains?
Yeah, excitement is building all right!
But I think it’s the Conflucians who guessed it this morning.
Are you sitting down?
It’s a new logo! And it’s different from Obama’s, so stop saying so!
But wait, there’s more: it’s bling!
The logo is on all sorts of merchandise too, so if you still have a job and money, buy it right away!
How excited are you?
Now, in all fairness, one B0bot came pretty close too
A new theme song? Permalink
I’d think the guys with the key chains were in the ball park too. So, winners, congratulations! No prizes, sorry
As one of my readers astutely observes, MTA may claim some rights to this
Yesterday, when Tim Kaine said that he’d have a “big announcement” in 24 hours, I was skeptical. I put up a post predicting “gimmickry”, and I was rightly slammed for its snide and dismissive tone.
But today, we see what Tim was talking about. It wasn’t the appointment of Elizabeth Warrren, or the repatriation of Howard Dean to the Democratic leadership. It wasn’t a new policy proposal that would make Republicans squirm. It was (and I can hardly type, I’m so excited) a NEW LOGO.
Look at it. Can you believe how lucky we are to have leaders of such strength and vision? I mean, it’s a D. Inside a CIRCLE!!!
In fairness, how could anyone have possibly known that they would set their sights so high? I mean, your average party leader would have just put the ‘D’ out there, or maybe an empty circle. But it took great men like Tim Kaine to combine them into one, bold image.
The fall elections are now a LOCK for Democrats. When someone complains to me that they’re unemployed, I’ll just show them the Circle-D. No health care? Talk to the Circle-D. Worried about Social Security cuts? Who cares? When the money runs out, we can all feast on yummy Circle-Ds.
At least I finally found out about that key chain:
Fluffers try to bring some perspective
Wow… if only they’d updated their whole website… and not mentioned the logo
Oh… right… they did update the website to make it easier for activists to communicate and network.
Oh, and they didn’t mention the logo; they threw away an aside that the site also has a new look. But the logo is what you focus on. Not what the site actually does. Nice. All’s true that is mistrusted
15. Websites get updated every day.
Only Big TIm thinks it’s worthy of a full news cycle. Maybe we should ask him about the “series of tubes”.
and here’s a nice one
25. IT LOOKS LIKE THE GRADE IT DESERVES. nt
103. it looks like a deformed nipple
Please tell me this is a joke.
A few still hope
41. Tim Kaine’s announcement isn’t scheduled until this afternoon. The web site change isn’t it.
43. Except he said on NBC that this WAS it.
and how can I miss this exchange?
226. Reminds me of the Target logo.
Is the resemblance coincidental or intended?
But the best of all is this
246. D + O = D’oh!
C’mon Dems, embrace your Party of Homer.
And finallt, for those who still think this is a joke
’m sure you’ll also notice our new look. Some may think: it’s just a logo—it’s just a brand. Well I don’t believe the Democratic Party is a logo or a brand—we are much more than that. We are Democrats. We create change that matters. Ours is a party of ideas and ideals, of policies and people, history and purpose. So call it what you will—this new identity for our party captures the spirit that unites us all. Democrats—all of us—are working for the change that matters
