Cannonfire does some excellent sleuth work putting together all the clues pointing to yes. If JJJ is #5, it’s not smelling like Chanel.

Marc Ambinder who’s been handling campaign leaks as news concurs

“Later on December 4, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke to Fundraiser A. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he was “elevating” Senate Candidate 5 on the list of candidates for the open Senate seat. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he might be able to cut a deal with
Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH with something
“tangible up front.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH noted he was going to meet with
Senate Candidate 5 in the next few days.”

The only candidate with whom Blagojevich met within that period was Jesse Jackson, Jr.”

here’s what Cannonfire found in the complaint on him:

In a recorded conversation on October 31, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH described an earlier approach by an associate of Senate Candidate Five as follows: “We were approached ‘pay to play.’ That, you know, he’d raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a Senator.”

Could it be, the backstabbing son would get his dues already?

“Revered Jackson is my dad and I’ll always love him. He should know how hard that I’ve worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.

I bet Blago knows how hard already – do the prosecutors know too?

That the bowels of Obamaland find the perspective “sad“, make this a sweeter story. Best comment:

JJ Jr. stood up to his own father when he was smearing Obama. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t automatically assume the black guy is guilty.

Will stay tuned

Update from ABC –

Chicago Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., is the anonymous “Senate Candidate No. 5” whose emissaries Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich reportedly offered up to $1 million to name him to the U.S. Senate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

complete with denial

Jackson said, “I don’t know” when asked whether he was Candidate No. 5, but said he was told “I am not a target of this investigation.”

Reminds me of something Rove once said – and displayed

“It is impossible for someone on my behalf to have a conversation that would suggest any type of quid pro quo or any payments or offers,” Jackson told ABC News. “An impossibility to an absolute certainty.”

And for anyone who missed the tears reference

…there were tears that melted the Granite State. And those are tears that Mrs. Clinton cried on that day, clearly moved voters. She somehow connected with those voters.

But those tears also have to be analyzed. They have to be looked at very, very carefully in light of Katrina, in light of other things that Mrs. Clinton did not cry for, particularly as we head to South Carolina where 45% of African-Americans who participate in the Democratic contest, and they see real hope in Barack Obama.
