…Best from Daily News

as  bonus, thanks to Grail Guardian, Blago and Obama on December 2nd

the caption reads

Rob Blagojevich, left, at the Bipartisan meeting of the National Governor’s Association in Philadelphia. Federal authorities in Chicago have arrested Blagojevich, and they’ve accused him of attempting to benefit financially from his position to appoint a Barack Obama’s Senate replacement. It’s the photo and caption under an article of November 5 – proving that the first thing he did after the election, in spite his denials today, was to meet with Blago re: senate seat

and the article is titled

Who will fill Obama’s senate seat?

.and starts:

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

More on “I have never talked to this man” here

I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.

The unusually early date of B0’s resignation from the Senate must have been also decided that day

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

Update

The website which posted the article issues a clarification. Like Axelrod, they so misspoke!

They have no idea that any meeting took place

The story housed in our website archive was on the morning of November 5, 2008. It suggested that a meeting was scheduled later that day between President Elect Obama and Illinois Governor Blagojevich. KHQA has no knowledge that any meeting ever took place.  Governor Blagojevich did appear at a news conference in Chicago on that date.

Since it’s not there anymore, let me post the entire thing from MY archives:

CHICAGO, ILL. — Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White
House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to
be filled.

That’s one of Obama’s first priorities today.

He’s meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago
to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There’s already been speculation about his selection…from
Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago’s south side who co-chaired
Obama’s presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate
president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It’s likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new
senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take
office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate
seat.

KHQA’s Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan
today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working
with Obama in the state senate, and if there’s a chance Sullivan might
play a role in the Obama administration.  Watch KHQA News at 5:00,
6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

How much for that senate seat? You’ll have to check E-bay

The auctions popped up Tuesday after Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested and accused of trying to benefit

Update

The letter from Blago to Obama and press release about their discussion of senate seat are here

On November 5, 2008, Blago’s office issued a press release entitled Governor Blagojevich Congratulates President-elect Obama and Discusses U.S. Senate Seat.

Sooo, maybe they did.

Cannonfire does some excellent sleuth work putting together all the clues pointing to yes. If JJJ is #5, it’s not smelling like Chanel.

Marc Ambinder who’s been handling campaign leaks as news concurs

“Later on December 4, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH spoke to Fundraiser A. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he was “elevating” Senate Candidate 5 on the list of candidates for the open Senate seat. ROD BLAGOJEVICH stated he might be able to cut a deal with
Senate Candidate 5 that provided ROD BLAGOJEVICH with something
“tangible up front.” ROD BLAGOJEVICH noted he was going to meet with
Senate Candidate 5 in the next few days.”

The only candidate with whom Blagojevich met within that period was Jesse Jackson, Jr.”

here’s what Cannonfire found in the complaint on him:

In a recorded conversation on October 31, 2008, ROD BLAGOJEVICH described an earlier approach by an associate of Senate Candidate Five as follows: “We were approached ‘pay to play.’ That, you know, he’d raise me 500 grand. An emissary came. Then the other guy would raise a million, if I made him (Senate Candidate 5) a Senator.”

Could it be, the backstabbing son would get his dues already?

“Revered Jackson is my dad and I’ll always love him. He should know how hard that I’ve worked for the last year and a half as a national co-chair of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. So, I thoroughly reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.

I bet Blago knows how hard already – do the prosecutors know too?

That the bowels of Obamaland find the perspective “sad“, make this a sweeter story. Best comment:

JJ Jr. stood up to his own father when he was smearing Obama. I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I don’t automatically assume the black guy is guilty.

Will stay tuned

Update from ABC –

Chicago Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., is the anonymous “Senate Candidate No. 5” whose emissaries Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich reportedly offered up to $1 million to name him to the U.S. Senate, federal law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

complete with denial

Jackson said, “I don’t know” when asked whether he was Candidate No. 5, but said he was told “I am not a target of this investigation.”

Reminds me of something Rove once said – and displayed

rovenovaksourcenottarget.jpg \"I\'M A SOURCE NOT A TARGET picture by Robbedvoter

also

“It is impossible for someone on my behalf to have a conversation that would suggest any type of quid pro quo or any payments or offers,” Jackson told ABC News. “An impossibility to an absolute certainty.”

And for anyone who missed the tears reference

…there were tears that melted the Granite State. And those are tears that Mrs. Clinton cried on that day, clearly moved voters. She somehow connected with those voters.

But those tears also have to be analyzed. They have to be looked at very, very carefully in light of Katrina, in light of other things that Mrs. Clinton did not cry for, particularly as we head to South Carolina where 45% of African-Americans who participate in the Democratic contest, and they see real hope in Barack Obama.

It’s time for Axelrod to do the fast tap dance after proving Obama a liar(as Obama declared he had not spoken to Blago)

“I know he’s talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”

These words – according to Politico, were first retracted by an aide speaking anonymously

“What the president-elect said today is correct, David Axelrod misspoke,” the aide said.

Then Axelrod decided to make it official and deny some more

I was mistaken when I told an interviewer last month that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.

Now, how could he even know what Obama didn’t do at any time?

Especially when Obama himself said he did

“But the last thing I want to do is get involved in New York politics,” he said, noting that he has enough of that to deal with in his home state of Illinois, which is also looking for someone to fill his senate seat.”

And aren’t we glad the DNC moved to Chacago?

Update

Thanks Janet for the tip _ Nov 5 article on Obama meeting Blago

which was first posted by Sarah in Italy

Didn’t Obama resign senate  10 days after this meeting?
