.How did Palin do wrong by New York Times this time?

According to the very title – she was …to good

Sarah Palin, Looking Like a Real Entertainer

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska made her point by going on “Saturday Night Live.” She proved she has a sense of humor at a time when the country is still debating whether to take her seriously as a potential commander in chief.

Since the media has decided she – a governor – is not to be taken seriously, showing a sense of humor was not approved:

And that was what was so remarkable — and jarring — about her engaging, relaxed performance on “SNL,

Ms. Palin’s delightful performance on Saturday stood out from the efforts of other politicians who have made fun of themselves on the NBC late-night comedy show.

In other words: you were good, we hate you! And what’s worse, you had great ratings too! Again!:

Her appearance was seen by more than 14 million people, the largest audience for “SNL” since 1994. It was definitely entertaining, but it was hard at times to tell whether it was a bold political tactic or a show-business audition.

And just to show you how unbiased we are, we are not even going to speak for the Democrats this time. In order to hate you today, we’ll presume to speak for Republicans:

The comic tempo was just right; it was the strategy that looked a bit odd. Ms. Palin may have charmed Democrats who viewed her as a narrow-minded zealot; her performance did little to assuage the concerns that have troubled many Republican and independent voters.

And how does New York Times know what republicans feel? Well, the most credible newspaper of record has it from the most credible spokesman on record – they both sold us WMD together

It didn’t help that Mr. Powell chose to endorse Mr. Obama the very next day. “I was also concerned at the selection of Governor Palin,” Mr. Powell told Tom Brokaw. “She’s a very distinguished woman, and she’s to be admired, but at the same time, now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don’t believe she’s ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president.

All righty then! We know this guy would never stir us wrong

So, let’s recap what new Tork Times says here:

Sarah Palin is delightful on SNL: bad. Why? Because the guy who sold us the war says so. And that makes NYT  sure that the Republicans must be thinking it.

And that takes NYT surrogacy for the Obama campaign to new levels. Now they are biased and self-parody themselves at the same time.

Update October 21

The meme is carried on by ABC

“her appearance this weekend on Saturday Night Live was a boost for the show’s ratings, but an ABC News poll finds that 52 percent of voters said McCain’s choice of Palin made them less confident of his judgment.”

Not even it it’s PDF charts does the poll reveal its samples.

yeah. And Gore invented the internet.

Over at Huffpo, Alec Baldwin makes excuses for SNL for inviting Palin

He first puts himself out on a limb noting that Palin was polite and gracious, then sinks into the delusion of the relevance of SNL

However, I assume that, like Meet the Press, SNL feels an obligation to offer their special forum to any and all public figures and officials who are current. Headline making. And in SNL‘s case, would make for a hit show. Several people decried SNL for giving her a spot on the show. You’re kidding, right? The woman is the Vice Presidential nominee of one of the two major parties in this country. Don’t put her on SNL? With all of her exposure and the Tina Fey performance? What reality are you in?

only to try and maintain the opposite in the next paragraph

If you think an appearance on Saturday Night Live would sway voters and actually affect the outcome of the election, you may have more contempt for the electorate of this country than the Republican National Committee does. And that’s a lot of contempt.
