Over at Capital Forum, the Stage Manager did a brilliant adaptation of present times and the  Shakespearian play . With the author’s permission, here it is, in its entirety:

Friends, Americans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury The Clinton Campaign, not to praise it.
The evil that happens in primaries lives after campaigns;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Senator Clinton. The noble Barack
Hath told you Hillary was an elitist and racist:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Hillary answer’d it.
Here, under leave of Barack and the rest–
For Barack is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable men–
Come I to speak in Hillary’s concession.
She is my friend, faithful and just to me:
But Barack says she was not a true Democrat;
And Barack is an honourable man.
She hath brought many laws home to to the Senate
Whose benefits did the general coffers fill:
Did this in Hillary seem elitist?
When that the poor have cried, Hillary hath wept:
Elitists and racists should be made of sterner stuff:
Yet Barack says she was Elitist and Racist;
And Barack is an honourable man.
You all did see that in the Primary
Many contests did she carry,
Always for the smallest of us: was this ELITISM?
Yet Barack says she was Elitist;
And, sure, he is an honourable man.
I speak not to disprove what Barack spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love her once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then even now?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is there with my wife,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

First Citizen
Methinks there is much reason in his sayings.

Second Citizen

If thou consider rightly of the matter,
Hillary has had great wrong.

Third Citizen

Has she, masters?
I fear there will a worse come in her place.

Fourth Citizen

Mark’d ye his words? She spoke for the least of us;
Therefore ’tis certain she was not Elitist

First Citizen
If it be found so, some will dear abide it.

Second Citizen

Poor soul! his eyes are red as fire with weeping.

Third Citizen

There’s not a nobler man in American than Bill Clinton.

Fourth Citizen

Now mark him, he begins again to speak.

Bill Clinton as Marc Antony
If you have tears, prepare to shed them now.
You all do know her reputation; I remember
‘Twas on a summer’s evening, in her tent,
That day she overcame for the Senate:
Look, in this place ran BARACK’s dagger through:
See what a rent the envious BRAZILE made:
Through this the DNC by way of DEAN stabb’d;
This was the most unkindest cut of all;
For when the noble HILLARY saw him stab,
Ingratitude, more strong than traitors’ arms,
Quite vanquish’d her: then burst her mighty heart;
O, what a fall was there, my countrymen!
Then I, and you, and all of us fell down,
Whilst bloody treason flourish’d over us.
O, now you weep; and, I perceive, you feel
The dint of pity: these are gracious drops.
Kind souls, what, weep you when you but behold
Our HILLARY’s reputation wounded? Look you here,
Here is herself, marr’d, as you see, with traitors.

First Citizen
O piteous spectacle!

Second Citizen
O noble Candidate!

Third Citizen
O woful day!

Fourth Citizen
O traitors, villains!

First Citizen
O most bloody sight!

Second Citizen
We will be revenged.

Bill Clinton as Marc Antony

Good friends, sweet friends, let me not stir you up
To such a sudden flood of mutiny.
They that have done this deed are honourable:
What private griefs they have, alas, I know not,
That made them do it: they are wise and honourable,
And will, no doubt, with reasons answer you.
I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts:
I am no orator, as BARACK is;
But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man,
That love my wife; and that they know full well
That gave me public leave to speak of her campaign:
For I have neither wit, nor words, nor worth,
Action, nor utterance, nor the power of speech,
To stir men’s blood: I only speak right on;
I tell you that which you yourselves do know;
but were I BARACK, and BARACK Bill Clinton, there were a man
Would ruffle up your spirits and put a tongue
In every wound of Hillary that should move
The stones of America to rise and mutiny.
Here was a CANDIDATE! when comes such another?

For historical context: the speech  – here adapted from the Shakespearian version was real and was delivered just as Brutus was about to seize power after killing Caesar.

As a result of the speech, the crowds turned on Brutus, and Anthony, Caesar’s ally, retained the power.

In short, it prevented a coup.

Update of August 22

perfect companion piece :

Barack Obama’s aides worrying over what Bill Clinton will say in his convention speech

Bill Clinton's reluctance to endorse Barack Obama warmly as the next president is causing jitters

Mr Clinton is apparently reluctant to be shackled to a set text and would prefer, in the words of one of his former aides, to ‘just go out and say what’s on his mind’ Photo:

As the reality settles in with the new polls so does CDS return. WaPo is a pioneer in that:

Obama, according to the polls, is still having trouble locking down the votes of Hillary Clinton’s primary-season supporters

Lost in this analysis, though, is a crucial fact: many of Clinton’s primary-season supporters are not necessarily loyal Democratic presidential election voters.

With the new purity tests in place, the article goes back to their favorite whipping boy – the Appalachians.

leave aside the repeating of the offensive slurs, last I checked, Hillary won states such as NY, California, Massachusets while Obama’s caucuses were mostly in red states with rented republicans. In fact, the map of their winnings follows quite closely the GE map – with Hillary taking the blue and Obama the red.

But WaPo is worried that

Some are interpreting this as evidence that Obama has a lingering problem with the Democratic base, and even speculating that he consequently might shock the world and pick Clinton as his running mate.

And frankly, I don’t need such shocks either , so, keep it up! Remind voters why they didn’t vote for Obama the first time and there’s no reason to change now.

Make my day. Please.

Update with the latest McCain video – taking care of Tim Kaine too

Yesterday Real Clear Politics reported a first exchange

The Obama campaign sent out an email announcing they were releasing a new ad in Georgia linking McCain to Ralph Reed and, by association, Jack Abramoff.
Brian Rogers, spokesman for the McCain campaign, fired back with this:

“Barack Obama’s ad is ridiculous. Because of John McCain, corruption was exposed and people like Jack Abramoff went to jail.

However, if Barack Obama wants to have a discussion about truly questionable associations, let’s start with his relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers…

Today Obama accused Mccain of being rich

“Somebody asked John McCain, ‘how many houses do you have?’ and he said, ‘I’m not sure. I’ll have to check with my staff.’ True quote!” Obama said today at rally in Virginia. “By the way, the answer is John McCain has seven homes.

and McCain responded that Oba,a is corrupt

“Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses?”

adding

“Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula and thinks regular people ‘cling’ to guns and religion in the face of economic hardship really want to have a debate about who’s in touch with regular Americans?”

People in glass houses….have the media cover up for them. I saw so far about 10 stories on MCain’s houses, only 2 on his response. there seems to be still omerta on Rezko

Strange that it would be the NY Post to afford us the more respectful write-up (see  Hillary’s haridans here. OK, maybe this is not just about PUMA per se,  Women count and other “nicer” groups included, but still, NY POst?!!!? I mean, they did post the worst photo of Hillary they could find but:

Sen. Clinton will headline an event hosted by WomenCount – formerly WomenCountPAC, a group founded by Clinton loyalists during the primaries to push back against calls for her to drop out and to condemn the sexist coverage of the race. In Denver, it will relaunch as a “MoveOn.org for women’s issues and ideas.”

There seems to be some glee at the B0’s embarrassment by all this

Bet the Obama people are just thrilled.

Not that they don’t support women’s issues; they have to. But a gathering of Hillary diehards hailing his former opponent and reopening old wounds isn’t exactly “on message” for the Obama campaign.

Indeed, with the race apparently tightening, strolls down memory lane by Clinton supporters are the last thing Obama needs.

The rest of us are mentioned too

Other groups don’t have such high-minded plans for the convention. “Real Democrats USA” plans to distribute opposition research on Obama that it says is being ignored by the mainstream media.

Then there’s “Just Say No Deal” – whose motto is “A coalition of millions with one thing in common – NOBama.”

Accurate description of our actions is given and it even identifies a tiny part of the real reason:

This problem is partly of the Obama camp’s own making. It has yet to do any serious outreach to Clinton supporters – and it missed chances throughout the primaries to treat them respectfully or honor the historic nature of Clinton’s candidacy.

No, not the stolen election, silly – this is NY Post! So it ends with the silliest patronozing remarks -coming from  Mrs Gropinator:

Earlier this week, Maria Shriver gave some Clinton supporters a pep talk – comparing their broken hearts to how she felt when her uncle, Sen. Edward Kennedy, lost a Democratic primary campaign to incumbent President Jimmy Carter. “I held grudges from the 1980 campaign for way too long,” she said. “It didn’t serve me well or advance healing.”

Pep talk? Almost as inept as Dean – although somewhat even more pathetic coming from a woman who told a rape victim “my husband would have left me if that had happened to me”
