Today, walking in the Lower East Side I saw a bike on top of the curious underwater pile in this graffiti

No sooner did I ponder the significance of this, I saw on the same sidewalk a crochet covered bike

In NYC, locking your bike is bound to secure at least parts of it

Maybe the owner of that should get together with the owner of this

Not sure why I included this in the bikes collection.

It was in our community garden

and maybe it did remind me of this

Snow????? It was beautiful here today. High 70s. That reminds me, I need to dust the cobwebs off of my bicycle.

Oh, no. The snow shot was taken back in February. I just remembered I has another bike pic in my collection and added for counterpoint.

I had a tour of ABC No Rio years ago when my daughter was doing Food Not Bombs feeding the homeless in Thompkins Square Park. They had a really nice community garden in the back.
Do you see any “ghost” bikes around? Painted white with flowers as a memorial at the spot where a cyclist was killed
They give me goosebumps.

I knew you’d appreciate this one. No, I didn’t see the ghost bikes. I wish that tour would still be on. I discovered those purely by chance

The city probably doesn’t let those bikes stay up for long? Chained to city property and all.
And yes I did appreciate your post…..and a peek back to my kid’s old neighborhood….tks

Love those pics! And the crocheted cover is just fabulous!
I personally never had the guts to bicycle in N.Y. In Denmark though, it’s a whole other matter. E.g. this is a common way to transport our kids: http://tinyurl.com/yf6dj6b

That I probably could do. I don’t enjoy biking in traffic, but there are some nice places where it’s fun.
I never dared put my kids on a bike as others do (front, back)
