The Stupak amendment was not exactly a surprise to anyone, but those who should have defended women’s rights.
It has been submitted – and defeated- in committee back in July – and nobody heard or wrote a thing about it.
Not NARAL, not Planned Parenthood, nor any of the people who asked women to protect their reproductive rights by voting for Obama
And as all so called progressives in Congress were laying down for Stupak for Saturday’s vote – because how could they harm Obama?
the author himself was incredulous how easy it was and amazingly declated:
“It’s more than what we thought we would get.”
Not more that Obama thought they’d get though, as he repeated his statement in the healthcare speech in his interview with Jake Tapper yesterday. Tapper asked the very question:
when you gave your joint address to Congress, that under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions. This amendment passed Saturday night which not only prohibits abortion coverage in the public option, but also prohibits women who receive subsidies from taking out plans that — that provide abortion coverage. Does that meet the promise that you set out or does it over reach, does it go too far?
And Obama, speaking with both sides of his mouth leaves this much:
this is a health care bill, not an abortion bill. (not anymore!) And we’re not looking to change what is the principle that has been in place for a very long time, which is federal dollars are not used to subsidize abortions.
And I want to make sure that the provision that emerges meets that test — that we are not in some way sneaking in funding for abortions
And then, Mr Changey talks about …not changing the status quo.
B0bots and pro-choice organizations, I have a picture for you to look at.

Ugh – what a disaster. I feel like the “feminist” movement is always 10 days late and 40 dollars short.

How about 40 years late and about 700 billion dollars short?

They reverted to stereotype. The so-called feminist movement fell in love with a man, and threw away their friends & no matter how much he abuses them, they still “hope” he’ll love them back.
Diana DeGette: “I just found out about the President’s statement about an hour ago, and I’m enormously encouraged, because the President is really saying what the rest of us think.” … “and I’m hoping that the President will sit down with us in the next few weeks and really start to hammer out some language that we can all accept.”

Utterly and completely clueless. So, so sad. We told her that man was bad news. But did she listen? Noooooooo!
We need to take her out for Cosmos and explain the realities of life to her. That man ain’t never gonna change.

Just could not resist. In this week’s USPS mailing to congress & media, I expressed frustration with Stupak situation, then recommended vasectomies (cheaper and safer than abortions) as a work-around for the problem.

Love it! And, unlike abortions, they should be covered by the Healthcare club for Men!

ROFL, Aravosis issues an ultimatum:
Joe and I are launching today a donor boycott of the DNC. The boycott is cosponsored by Daily Kos, Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake, Dan Savage, Michelangelo Signorile, David Mixner, Andy Towle and Michael Goff of Towle Road, Paul Sousa (Founder of Equal Rep in Boston), Pam Spaulding, Robin Tyler (ED of the Equality Campaign, Inc.), Bil Browning for the Bilerico Project, and soon others.
It’s really more of a “pause,” than a boycott. Boycotts sounds so final, and angry. Whereas this campaign is temporary, and is only meant to help some friends – President Obama and the Democratic party – who have lost their way. We are hopeful that via this campaign, our friends will keep their promises.”
A pause? Ouch, that’ll teach em.’

Thanks for the link Madamab!
No wonder ZerObama did not want Patterson to run for governor.
Patterson sounds as though he is a real leader – the kind who will show up how bad Obama is at everything!

Where is he? Behind the scenes, of course, giving the dirty work of coming up with something for him to sign to Pelosi et al.
So, for the sake of his re-election campaign, Nancy Pelosi betrayed not only those of us who support a comprehensive reform bill, but her own gender by choosing to stick to the POTUS’ timetable and 86-ing the right to choose.
Still unanswered is the question “How you gonna pay for this?”
Obama answers:
“From the taxes levied on your children, grandchildren, and maybe even their grandchildren. Just as long as I get to sign this into law, so I’ll have something to crow about when I begin my re-election campaign. I’m going to win in 2012, even if it kills you. Even if it forces you to give up your right to do what you wish with your own body Even if you have to cast your vote from the poorhouse.”
Pelosi says: “We did it!”

Katherine B.
I go to sites like these to keep me going and to keep me from going absolutely bonkers. It really helps to read the comments of others who see what a disaster Obama is. But now I have to ask a simple question: What are we going to DO?
On the day after passage of the Stupak Amendment, I e-mailed my Democratic Rep. Norm Dicks (who voted against the amendment) but FOR the bill). I told him Democrats have just screwed women and I hoped to have the opportunity to return the favor. I wrote to my U.S. Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell (a real Hillary supporter) and asked them to make sure this provision was not in the Senate version. I hope everyone here has done at least that much. But it hardly seems enough. What else are we going to DO?????

Katherine B. – if I told you how often I’ve contacted congress during the last 22 months, you would not believe me. Nearly all, save the late Ted Kennedy and even Karl Rove (of all people!) have shown no interest in my opinions either via direct communication, or in their legislative priorities.
However, persistence has gotten me through some really terrible times; so I shall persist. I hope you will too.

Katherine I think it is time we start keeping track, records, as in a count – with the originals – that we contact our politicians.
Then in the future it will serve as ammo as well.
“I contacted your office 12 times last year Senator, and you and your office didn’t do squat in answering a single question from those 12 contacts. Your political opponent will be very interested in using this against you in their campaign ads!”

Get this:
Tissue created in a laboratory has been used to completely replace the erectile tissue of the penis in animals.
The advance raises hopes of being able to restore full function to human penises that have been damaged by injury or disease.

No doubt in my mind that ObamaCare will cover this.

Well crap, are we all missing the bigger picture? Seems there’s been 11 amendments shot down this year “requiring Congress to be on the Obamacare Plan”. There’s my first clue. Second clue, I don’t want to pay for your abortion anymore than I want to pay for your boob job. Keep it safe, legal and rare (thank you Hillary), but it’s between a woman and her doctor, some hormone help and a simple D&C. It’s called a GYN appt. Geesh.

Is the real clue Pelosi/Obama, C Street & the Catholic Bishops? Was Stupak just the stooge they let carry the ball?
I don’t ususally quote her, but this is a pretty good thread:
