I know the day is young, but I am taking my chances.

As I was catching up on the press conference going on during Torchwood at The Confluence, I happened on this instant classic from stateofdisbelief

TOTUS must be on break. or replaced by SCROTUS (screen capture reader of the united states)

SCROTUS..(I might TM that)

Beyond that, I learned that Obama is pushing a plan that would not even go into effect until 2013-2015, that right before the press conference a list of the Pharma CEO drafring the damn thing and visiting the White House has been released and Congress will not vote on anything before recess (which is probably a good thing).

And the good question: how was Johnson able to pass a single payer insurance (Medicare) which went in effect within a year?

Now, with Walter Cronkite gone, Wapo sets out to peer into the abyss – telling us who different people think they completely trust. There was just one wise answer in the bunch

“If the standard is Walter Cronkite, forget about it. The era of universally trusted people is gone if not forgotten.” – Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).

For the rest, they came up with 3 Obamas, 3 Oprahs 3 Jon Stewart and the occasional Bill Moyers. Ending with Google – which is quite astute: if we are accepting contrieved entertainment and political figures as sources of truth, why not skip the middle man (the image makers) and go directly to the statistics?

I mean polls have been used since W’s years to measure what’s legal (PATRIOT ACT, Plame affair), what’s right (wars) or even what is or isn’t a fact (intelligent design pitted against evolution).

Truth has been thus manufactured so weaker minds would think: if they all believe that, it must be true…

Except that, of all things, truth is not democratic

The whole world can be wrong and one man, opposing its opinion and belief, can be right.

Ironically, I got this version of the quote from a militant Christian book, explaining away excesses, but I happen to agree.

Eleanor Holmes Norton is right. There are no more universally trusted people. (Well, in all fairness,  Archie Bunker deeply mistrusted Cronkite too)

The more the media is using its powers to manufacture – not just consent, but reality itself – the less credibility it gets.

Here’s the most recent example: Catie Couric is packaging Obama in an interview

Couric pressed Obama to extend his deadline (“Is there any flexibility on this August deadline?” and “You’ll have some flexibility on this deadline?),

and

she reminded Obama “your administration projected that with the stimulus package, as you know, unemployment could be kept under 8 percent,” so she wondered, in absolving him of blame: “In the future when you make these projections and estimates and cost savings. I mean, it’s a pretty dicey proposition, don’t you think, to predict economics into the future?”

Although it was quite astonishing to see the likes of Brian Williams popping up in the answers.

And I am not sure, but seems to me the “Oprah”s outnumber the “Obama”s. Why not – she occasionally gives cars to her audiences…

So, maybe people getting less trustful – not such a bad thing after all. I hope they get really cynical after this last swindle – but not passive and inert. Just harder to swindle.

On edit, an excellent summation of the truth by Murphy

The only tabloid paying any attention to Obama is the free Metro – and it seems to be none too sympathetic either

Is it a slow news day or self doubts flog a new way of fanatism? Found this tracking my traffic. Timing is bizare at least – but maybe it’s part of the new “democrat on democrat” trend Politico was trumpeting.

One cannot touch The One they think they brought in, so they have to find someone to pile on.

Just as a refresher to guests:

PUMA are about honest elections, civil rights – including women and gays (not the DNC abridged definition), no war, economic rights for the not so very rich as well, lock box social security and single payer healthcare. We are against misogyny – that’s why we defended Sarah Palin against the hangings in efigy, threats of rape and fabricated baby stories – not because we are Republicans.

We started as Democrats (hence the meaning of the acronym) – but some of us left the party after the fixed primaries of last year.

Oh, and we dislike Kim Gandy because she was invisible during the Bros before Hos part of 2004 but emerged afterwards ready to defend…Michelle and declare Palin a dude. Somehow, we had the naive belief NOW was there for its constituents, not for the male candidate/Democratic party.

I either do better since my local chanels now require switching wires to receive them, or, considering I am on the internet a lot, the cult is less far reaching.

It took reading a Politico piece about the wearing off the cult for me to find out

starting with the hastily scheduled Friday address. But its first event might have backfired a bit. Its main consequence was proving that the magnetism of Obama’s personal appearances has worn off, as it drew little media attention and a dismissive tweet from the key Senate Republican, Chuck Grassley of Iowa: “Waste of time.”

Wow! maybe it’s because it was “hastily scheduled”

After all, the article is full of

“No one gets rich betting against Barack Obama.”

from his cronies. Which is an interesting choice of words, considering Rezko & al who got rich betting on him. But the article does tell us that the famous cool is gone . In favt, the theme or the article is that Mr Change is changing agenda

TOTUS has changed tone:

Even Obama’s scripted speeches are deliberately more forceful, aggressive and direct in taking on critics, aides say.

Well, if TOTUS changed gear, can Obama be far behind? It appears that Mr Post-partisan shed yet another skin

Obama’s political operation has dispensed with its post-inauguration cocktails for Republicans – or more often, ignoring them outright — in favor of the old politics of engage, attack and cajole. Obama’s even engaging in a little Democrat-on-Democrat politics, as his ex-campaign arm is beaming TV ads into the home states of moderate fence-sitters on health care.

Democrat on Democrat? Why does this have an incestuous sound to it? It’s definitely as far of principles as Obama ever was. On second thought, it’s more cannibalistic than incestuous.

I for one am grateful that I manage to have – so far – an Obama-less summer – and  notice the rumblings from afar. yet another sign there is a Jr.jr out there.
