Only one tabloid correctly summed up the news of the day, the free daily Metro

All the others (except for the Post which chose to ignore it) went with the same

Bill Thompson, the increasingly viable alternative to Mike Bloomberg for Mayor, has released a report on the economic benefits of adopting gay marriage for NYC
New York City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr. today issued an updated analysis finding that New York State’s economy could gain $210 million in the three years immediately following the legalization of marriage for same-sex couples.
As The Gothamist notes, this report may have an effect on the Senate’s decision to legislate gay marriage.

Thompson also states his disappointment in the ruling on Proposition 8:
“I am disappointed that the California Supreme Court has ruled to uphold Proposition 8 and allow a ban on marriage of same-sex couples to stand. Same-sex couples in committed relationships deserve to benefit from the same rights and legal protections as heterosexual couples. While I am pleased that the Court has validated the marriages of 18,000 same-sex couples who are already married, today’s overall decision represents a profound loss of basic rights.
I was going to vote a ham sandwitch against Bloomberg.

Now I finally have a reason to vote for someone and hope this year we may get both the gay marriage and a new Mayor in NYC.
