Yesterday, downtown New York, buildings were evacuated because of a very low flying jet.

In my neighborhood, I saw a huge flotilla of police cars heading downtown.
said a witness
And one woman, who had worked on the 13th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower, told the Wall Street Journal, “For anybody who had gone through the World Trade Center, this was the most thoughtless, senseless thing they could do to somebody.“
Eventually this came from the newswire
“AUTHORIZED FLY-OVER OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY BY AIR FORCE ONE FOR A PHOTO SHOOT. THE PRESIDENT WAS *NOT* ON BOARD.“
All righty then…Just a Mishun accompished thinghie then as this headline seems to say
Dept. Of Defense Plan To Scare NYC Totally Succeeds!
.
But, wait, the attempt to blame the DOD for it eventually fizzled, because guess who apologized for it?
The White House Military Office director Louis Caldera issued an apology, explaining he approved the mission last week: “I take responsibility for that decision.
A fawning Daily News tries to make the fall on the sword Obama proof
Louis Caldera, the director of the White House military office who sent Air Force One and the fighter jet on an “aerial photo mission,” got slammed by an angry President Obama.
All righty then. Besides, repeats Daily News
Obama was not on the flight.
Got it dude. He was too home doing homework.
The news wire made sure to protest too much first.
Of course, at the time, Gibbs was clueless
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs appeared taken aback as reporters peppered him with questions about the incident.
“I have no information beyond what I saw” on news reports, Gibbs said at his afternoon press conference.
But then the “insider report” was quickly spread to the Obama media
A short time later, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel tracked down Caldera and “relayed the President’s displeasure,” sources said.
“The President was furious,” a White House insider said.
Almost reminds me of the times of the Valerie Plame “leak” when THAT guy was furious
Me, I still thinkĀ that cool flight of the cool AF-1 Seems like a very…hip idea . He loved the AF-1 perk so much, he ordered a mock-up built for his speech at the Denver Temple
Here’s the logo:
Presidential image: A full-scale replica of Air Force One fuselage arrives at Invesco Field before Mr Obama speaks
I am also old enough to remember that about the same point in the Clinton presidency, the media fabricated a story about the Presidential plane stopping on the tarmac, delaying other flights for an expensive haircut. The ourage was as endless as the story was false, and yet Clinton’s approval at the time was 55 vs Obama’s 56.
Update
Okey dokey Mr “better judgment”

“NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said the department was told of the “aerial photo mission” last Thursday but was ordered to stay quiet about it. But they did alert 911 operators at 7 a.m. to tell callers it was an authorized military mission, he said.”
That’s notifying them for ya! Ask, but don’t tell.
When PR is as important as money – oops look like it already is.

Not unlike W’s White House with the actual 9.11. They knew a hijacking would occur, but thought it would be a “traditional one” and didn’t want to interfere with business, so they kept it to themselves (you may recall Condi’s “No one expected they would fly the planes into buildings. We thought it would be a traditional hijacking”). Same mindset.

I remember years ago, when the space shuttle Columbia was piggybacking on a huge jet back to it’s home base, we were alerted that it will be flying very low over our town so we can see this awesome sight! Had a few days notice, even the exact time, so we can look for it…..the sight was breathtaking and quite memorable.
Had NYCers had the opportunity to know this was going to happen, there would have been a much different reaction. So the White House fools blew it and are now blaming the military? Idiots.

I think that’s right.
Never underestimate the stupidity of incompetent people!
President Obama calls Air Force One flyover ‘mistake’ day after low-flying plane terrifies New York – Obama did not specifically apologize….
or failing to inform the mayor.
Sources said the reason for the stunt was to create souvenir pictures of a customized Boeing 747, which serves as Air Force One when the president is aboard.
Photos of the plane flying over the Statue of Liberty were to be given out to family, friends or supporters.

Oh dear, it is so very Mission Accomplished.
On some deep level, BO reminds me of W. Just playin’ at presidentin’ for the yuks and applause. Walking away when it gets too, like, boring.
But for now, he’s totally, totally displeased. Or so I hear.
