A nice little piece of Schadenfreude writing from Top of the Ticket
Even in another time zone, the cloistered cackling of Illinois Gov. Rod “Bleeping” Blagojevich could be heard. It was his arrest on corruption charges and release on bail in early December that prompted Reid to get 49 other Senate Democrats to sign a letter and announce how that body would never accept any appointee of a tainted governor like fellow Democrat Blagojevich. And a vacationing Obama agreed with Reid.
and his keeping score ends with
Oh, and Democrat Blagojevich is still sitting at the governor’s desk. With his guy in Obama’s seat. And his close friend, Rahm Emanuel, as White House chief of staff starting next week. Other than that, Blago lost everything in this struggle.
I like also the way Cinie writes it
Senator Roland Burris.
Ha, ha, ha.
Obacrats are going to be choking on that one every time they have to utter the word, “Senator” in front of the name “Roland Burris,” which is going to be a lot, since he is the junior senator from Illinois.
Burris himself issued a statement that recalls the little unpleasantness:
I would like to publicly thank Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and my long-time friend and Illinois’ senior senator, Dick Durbin. Never once did I doubt their intentions were motivated by anything other than doing what was right for the people of Illinois and by what they believed had to be done to protect the Senate as an institution.
The scape goat also gets mentioned
Secretary of State Jesse White, whom I’ve known for more than 30 years, is also owed a debt of gratitude. He also happen to be someone whose autograph I cherish.
And much as the move has been done as discretely as possible
The move, done with no cameras present to provide lasting video evidence of the political debacle for Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Illinois’ other senator, Dick Durbin, should get the political mess out of the way in time for Obama’s inauguration next Tuesday, as his aides had suggested.
it will provide a lasting proof of the clusterfuck of corruption and incompetence that the Obamacratic party is.
And what’s shadenfreude without a trip to Mudville?
Like this comment
Even so, it is a shame that Illinois should be represented — and Obama succeeded — by someone who has shown himself to be such a joke. I hope and expect Burris’s tenure in the Senate will not last beyond 2010.
This one is good
I was writing a post earlier called “Free Roland Burris” because Harry Reid has turned this whole episode into a bad joke and an embarrassment, but it now looks like he will be seated and fast.
.and
I’m still pissed that he accepted the appointment…….
.summing up from the other side via Hot Air
Think about this. You’ve got a popular Democratic incoming president, a Democratic lieutenant governor and secretary of state, and overwhelming Democratic majorities both in Congress and in the Illinois legislature. Everyone involved was opposed to letting Blagojevich make the pick.
And together they still couldn’t figure out a way to stop him.
complete with an exit question:
Exit question: The boss calls this Harry Reid’s humiliation. Isn’t it just as much Obama’s humiliation, too?

Yes, Virginia… sometimes *laws* and statutes do work to thwart the ill intentions of the pols who twist their meanings.
Never forget that, the founders actually meant what they wrote down. And they were a far more clever bunch than today’s rabid, money grubbing imposters.
I count the triumph of Burris and Blago as victories of the framers. One man (be he Bush or Obama) was never meant to have ALL the say so in our government.
In this case…. haha… he did not!
That’s one for (small d) democracy!

I have major problems with a heck of a lot of people. Blago, White, the entire Illinois congress, Harry Reid, Obama, almost all the dems in the Senate, and of course Fitzpatrick. The one person I don’t have a problem with is Roland Burris.
Frankly, I think this scandal is going to go away double quick once Obama takes office and fires Fitz & crew. He moved to quick and has nothing. Even if it goes to trial there is a damned good shot that Blago beats the wrap because nothing was acted upon.
Hard to prove conspiracy, especially when a slick lawyer can rationalize every statement away. They can probably argue successfully that the real criminal acts were committed by those attempting to bribe Blago. They can also point to the ultimate outcome, that Blago appointed a well respected politician to fill the vacant Senate seat. I can even visualize both Burris and Blago being re-elected in the near future. The people of this country have sunk that low.

Obama (King) BUSH III didn’t get his way in blocking Burris with REID… Will those tapes be released? Funny, but Obama’s fans got a private sealed divorce out in the OPEN (involving children) yet the Senator REID tapes can’t be released? ODD?!?
The tapes would be released if they could help Obama become world premier, but since he sided with REID on blocking Burris they won’t.

Stray Yellar Dog,
You’re right on the mark. Although they tried, they couldn’t circumvent the Constitution. The framers saw this coming when they drafted the Constitution. Amazing how the politicians in 1774, when they were meeting to face down King George, where able to foresee what could happen to their Republic if a bunch of evil, conniving, greedy bullies got control. Maybe it was due to the fact that they worked their hearts out to earn a living and tried to live by the Golden Rule. When they got into the fray it was to protect the colonies from the injustices thrown at them every day by a far away King.
Today’s politician (for the most part) only gets into politics to gain power and fill his wallet. And Yellar Dog, I look at the victories of Burris and Blago in the same way you do. The underdog had the guts to fight back the same way our forefathers did. I don’t know if Blago is guilty of the charges that have been leveled against him or not, but in America you are supposed to be presumed innocent until PROVEN guilty. Let’s hear the tapes Fitzpatrick has. No actual evidence has been produced yet. Is it because it might prove to be damaging to others that are now being protected?
Only in this instance, (the seating of Burris)I would spell Democracy with a capitol D. Our Constitution is trampled on so much these days that when it comes out on top it is something to applaud.

Indeed, it is something to applaud.
But it has nothing to do with the “big D” Democratic party. This is real democracy in action. The little guy, the constitution, the democratic process …. in action!
