This one is an addition to my Schadenfreude list – and I have to give it the full original title
Lei-off: Obama snubs Dean
Deanies are up in arms:
The conspicuous absence of Howard Dean from Thursday’s press conference announcing Tim Kaine’s appointment as Democratic National Committee chair was no accident, according to Dean loyalists.
Which actually reminds me of a funny thing during the primary – a reason to oppose “evil Hillary”:
“She would get rid of Dean”
Indeed, Obama said he’d keep him, didn’t he? Whatever happened to that?
Although Barack Obama’s recent decision to keep Howard Dean as the DNC chair was minor news at best, I think it’s much more important than the media has made it seem. I think the foreshadowing is undeniable; this will tell us a lot about what a potential Obama presidency would be like. Here are some things that jump out at me: Obama did not install one of his cronies, which would be a huge change over past Presidencies.
Oh, well, that was way back in June. Today we have:
Rather, they say, it was a reflection of the lack of respect accorded to the outgoing party chairman by the Obama team.
Indeed, when President-elect Barack Obama introduced Kaine at party headquarters Thursday afternoon, Dean was 7,023 miles and seven time zones away, closer to French Polynesia than Washington, doing party grunt work in American Samoa.
His allies aren’t happy about it.
That’s OK, I have been unhappy about his allies for years now. So let’s savor some more:
“If he had been asked to go to that event, he would have been there,” Jim Dean, the chairman’s brother, noted twice in an interview.
Dean’s reward for the party recapturing the White House, House, Senate, and taking control of seven governor’s mansions and eight state legislatures on his watch?
So far, nothing.
And then, there’s this delicious quote
“If we can forgive Joe Lieberman for actively campaigning against Obama, this seems crazy to me. And Hillary Clinton did ok and lots of her people are getting plum assignments,” noted the ally. “I really think he has rehabilitated himself. He showed he can be team player. It just seems so odd and I don’t know what the reasons are.”
A fourth Dean admirer found some gallows humor in the doctor’s disappearing act: “He said he wanted to be in the cabinet,” joked this source. “So they stuffed him in the cabinet and locked the door.”
Indeed, there must be no joy in Mudville today – and I may even take a trip later.
And while DFA sends now letters asking their members to “call on Tim Kaine”, Trippi makes the obvious accusations
Getting closer to the point, Trippi added: “You don’t have to look any further than Rahm Emanuel.”
Whomever. What was that B0bot quote back in June?
Obama did not install one of his cronies, which would be a huge change over past Presidencies.
Indeed. A whole day since the DNC illegally awarded him the primary and no cronie in sight. Hooray.
But just so I show that I am not bitter, i’ll end this with some saucy famous last words from Dean. In an interview with Tweety before the trip he said:
“You gotta hand it to Blagojevich,” said Dean of the embattled Illinois governor’s brazen appointment of Roland Burris to succeed Obama in the Senate. “What a maneuver! What a maneuver! When his back was against the wall he outsmarted a lot of people.”
Indeed, Howard. And I am enjoying it as much as you do
Democrats with knowledge of the situation said Dean has clashed with Obama aides and Democratic leaders in Congress and had been asked by Obama advisers not to attend.
We asked the DNC what is in the future for Howard Dean and so far have had no reply.
In Mudville denial prevails – softened by the many news reports. There are the usual “DLC did this” and a few even take issue with Teh One
IMO, Obama doesn’t want to appear with Howard Dean because
and someone even draws a picture – probably a better header than mine
Are we ready for the “Progressive Party” yet?
while others blame….Hillary
IF it is true, it hits me as bad as Obama’s honoring Bigot Warren and will provide absolute and unmistakable evidence of lack of character in the Ego and Expediency President. (You gotta’ admit, there is plenty of characterLESS smoke around BO.)
And speaking of that …
what in the world is the deal with Obama’s treatment of Wesley Clark and why?
Indeed, this reminded me of Clarn and the Convention too. Ads B0bot:
If that is indeed what put Clark totally and rudely out of the loop — when he was rightfully DEFENDING Obama. . .
it is plainly obvious what kind of new President we have.
There is a lot of yelling at DLC, Emanuel, Hillary – a smattering of primary memories…
and the host himself is jumping in, waving his credentials
This blog’s history is that we were the first major blog to support Obama a year ago. And Huff Post and AP are not notorious for misleading headlines – I think you have them confused with FOX News. Howard Dean should have been there, and he wasn’t – something is up, and now we hear that he was told not to attend. The facts are damning, don’t blame us for reporting the truth. Obama is screwing up and it’s hurting all of us.
Indeed. The first idiots are now deluding themselves they are the first to wake up. This is fun!
And some are beginning to shed the rosy glasses

While all of this does make my spite muscle happy, at the end of the day we still have Obama as president. God help America.

Obama has neutered all the previous Democratic presidential candidates or they neutered themselves (Richardson, Edwards). He side-tracked Hillary Clinton and ignored Kerry, Dean, Dodd, Feingold, and Kucinich Did I forget anybody important? Who will be able to mount a serious run against o now in 2012? Dean seems done in politics.

Poor Howard. It must give him heartburn when he realizes the whole of MI and FL were smilin’ as they went off to bed last night. Besides the 18 million Hillary supporters toasting to his new appointment, exile!

Too funny. I don’t want to gloat (ok, so I do!), but I am always happy to see these people get their just desserts.

It’s the $ more than anything. Obama with his undisclosed donations – mostly from abroad – became the one billion dollars man. Who exactly can raise comparable amounts without being a tool of very dark forces?

Dean IS the losing side! Poor Howie. I don’t want him anywhere near me under the bus. He can sit by the exhaust pipe.
I think in recent history the only major politician to challenge a sitting President in the primaries (at least on the Dimocratic side) was Ted Kennedy against Carter. The people who challenge Presidents tend to be fringe folks. I’m sure Kucinic (didn’t he back Obama during the primaries after he dropped out?) will try again. But I doubt any major Dim will challenge Barky in 2012.

I have a theory that Obama was a stealth candidate slipped in by moderate Republicans and funded by the superrich. They had been studying the left blogosphere for awhile and manufactured a candidate that would appeal directly to those peculiar idiosyncracies of the young and stupid. Then they cranked it up to 11 in order for the party to split itself in two. Now that Obama is elected, they have no use for the online community, many of whom are former Deaniacs.
This is their signal that the left is not to be heard from again. Obama is repudiating his base in the clearest and most succinct way possible- he is getting rid of Dean.
Well, we told them but did they listen?
“Ya gives ‘em books and gives ‘em books but all they does is chew on the covers.”

Well…regardless of what I may think of Dean (and it’s not good), this just is another indicator of how ruthless Obama and his crew are.
In my real world, it is just another indicator that we have the 3rd Bush/Cheney term in full swing and that we are so SCREWED….

I can’t believe anyone would vote for Lurch, curtain or not….I still can’t understand how George beat him, how a hero let himself get turned into a coward….what happened? I thought a Hillary Clinton/Howard Dean ticket was exciting and look what happened. Oh what could/should have been.

Riverdaughter,
You are so right! Wecan thank Mr. Karl Rove for putting Obama into office. Idiot extreme lefties like Dean and his poodle Donna Brazile were played like a piano.
Unfortunately, so were the American public and now the Constitution is nothing more than another piece of ancient sheet music to discard.
Honora,
As the Dolly Parton character in Steel Magnolias said, “Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”

We may not have a legitimte goernment for the next four years, but we will have more comic relief than you can imagine. What with the misogynistic bent of the new politics, and the economic meltdown, it is important to hang on to our sense of humor, and how nice that BO and the MSM give us something new to appreciate everyday.

IMO, Obama doesn’t want to appear with Howard Dean because
Dean is viewed by some as too “out there” or too liberal.
………..
Dean called PUMAs low class? OUCH! Well, OK then, they are now blaming him rather than ‘Donna Brazile’ and her ‘The New Democratic Party’ scheme?!? WOW, see what you get when you go and do wrong, the get the spoils, you just get the CRAPOLA!

Referring to Dean, EOF said: “Indeed, Obama said he’d keep him, didn’t he? Whatever happened to that?”
He also said he’d keep Fitzgerald on as USADA in the Northern District of Illinois. But yesterday TehOne said he would remove Ftiz and all his associates from the investigations into the Illinois administration. (Does that mean Blago is going free? Prolly not. The IL House of Reps just voted to impeach Blago.)
I am sooo on the same page with riverdaughter’s comment.

Though… I must say…. it is fun to watch Howie go down with the rest of the nutroot ship he sailed in to vote for Obama.

Goodbye and good riddance to Howard Dean. He was so anxious to be rid of the Clintons that he didn’t try to disguise his part in it. He thought he was on the winning side, and could do no wrong. Now he is on the outside looking in. Good. Now how long before Donna (we don’t need you old gun toting, bible thumping women any longer)Brazile gets tossed out of the “New Democratic Party”? Perhaps she, Richardson, Kerry and Dean can form the “New New Democratic Party” to house the rejects from her “New Democratic Party”. How sweet it is. I am afraid that it won’t be too long before his “oneness” finds a reason to sack Hillary. But he’ll wait until she officially resigns her senate seat and the new princess is installed.

Obama said one million or more would come out to see him. Well, 800,000 of them didn’t get the message.
Expectations for the Inauguration have swung wildly, but always in the 3 million – 5 million range. The media’s been reporting that people have put their homes up for rent, for up to $5,000 to $6,000 a night for people coming to town “to witness history”. Yes, people have indeed tried to rent their homes for that much — the same way people try to sell bottles of water for $5 on the street in Chicago on incredibly hot days to tourists who’ve wandered onto one of the Lakefront paths, and don’t know any better.

It occurs to me that Riverdaughter is giving Karl Rove too much credit. Consider that there just might be a new mutation of politician – a superbug if you will that was grown in a soup of just-for-show-liberalism then distilled through the cold, cold hearts of the super-rich corporations and the corporate media with a sprinkling of neo-conservative thown in for flavor. I mean, they he doesn’t have to be either/or.
